A circle. Mostly dark, with a sliver of light on the edge. A bit like the crescent moon: that elusive hint of the moon that makes the sky look like it is smiling.

Some think the moon affects people’s actions. They claim the full moon makes people crazier than usual. Getting in fights, crashing their car, etc. If that is true, what can be said for the new moon, when the moon is totally dark? Perhaps it makes people more level-headed than normal. Doing things like eating kale and actually reading user agreements on websites before agreeing to them.

But what about the crescent moon? If we take this to its logical conclusion, then the crescent moon should lead you to be mostly responsible, with just a touch of irresponsibility. Like when you go to the grocery store the day after Easter and stick with your healthy and budget-friendly shopping list. But then you get to the checkout line and see that the Reese’s eggs are half off so you buy every single bag because, after all, they won’t be back for another year and maybe they’ll go out of business before then and that’s just not a risk you’re willing to take.

On second thought, maybe there’s nothing irresponsible about that.
